Clemson graduate student Peter L. Datin, EIT explains his experimental studies to Dr. Gene Corley, P.E., S.E, President-Elect (Illinois), L. Robert Smith, P.E., Vice-President, Northeast Zone (Rhode Island), Dr. Donald Rathbone, P.E., Vice-President Central Zone (Kansas), Mr. Martin Pedersen, L.S., Past President (Wyoming), Mr. Louis Raimondi, P.E., President (New Jersey), Dr. Dave Whitman, P.E., Western Zone, Vice-President (Wyoming) and Dr. Gregg Brandow, P.E., S.E. Treasurer (California).
Dr. Prevatt and his graduate students, Mr. Peter Datin and Mr. Bo Cui (orange shirts) hosting the NCEES Board of Directors. The modeling of structural load paths in residential buildings and hurricane wind loads on structures in typical neighborhoods are the focus of current research. NCEES Associate Exective Director, Mr. Jerry Carter is at left.
Dr. Prevatt uses small scale wood models to explain the paths of water penetration into wood-framed residential housing that is responsible for significant water damage and economic losses during recent storms. Researchers are continuing to develop approaches for stronger, more water-resistant soffit designs to mitigate future losses.
